For generations, the Mitchell County Fair has been a cornerstone of summer in North Central Kansas. From 4-H projects and livestock shows to grandstand events and volunteer opportunities, the fair has created lasting memories while teaching the values of hard work, responsibility, and community. Today, that legacy has a new way to grow.

The Solomon Valley Community Foundation is now accepting applications for fall grants. Online applications open July 1st and are due August 1st, 2026.

Solomon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) is excited to announce the first-ever class of students selected to serve on the newly formed Youth Action Council (YAC), a leadership and enrichment program designed to empower high school students to become active changemakers in their communities.

The Solomon Valley Community Foundation's annual Give to Grow event once again demonstrated the power of community generosity, raising a total of $134,519.31 for local nonprofit organizations in a single day of giving.

Access to quality childcare is one of the most important and increasingly urgent needs facing rural communities today. In Mitchell County, local leaders, families, and employers have all felt the effects of limited childcare options.

While the Volunteer Fair provides a one-day opportunity to meet organizations face-to-face, the MC Volunteers database ensures those opportunities remain accessible year-round. "This is really about making it easier for people to get involved," Rabe said. "Mitchell County has an incredible network of nonprofits and community organizations. When people connect with those opportunities, everyone benefits."

During its spring grant cycle, the Solomon Valley Community Foundation awarded just over $82,000 in grants to 16 projects throughout Mitchell County. The following organizations received funding:
