Help Keep Mitchell County Strong: Match Month Returns This November

Updated: 1 day ago
Solomon Valley Community Foundation invites residents to invest in local impact and the future of Mitchell County.

Strong communities don't happen by accident. They're built by people who care, neighbors who lend a hand, businesses that invest locally, and families who believe in the future of the place they call home.
This November, Solomon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) is inviting Mitchell County residents to come together once again for Match Month, an annual giving campaign focused on strengthening local communities today while building resources for generations to come.
Since Match Month began in 2016, local donors have contributed $728,304, helping generate more than $1.8 million in combined local donations and matching support for Mitchell County.
While the numbers are impressive, the real story is what those dollars make possible.
Local Giving. Lasting Impact.
Throughout Mitchell County, the impact of local generosity can be seen in the organizations, programs, and community projects that make our communities better places to live.
Through its Community Impact Fund, SVCF provides grants to local nonprofits and community initiatives, helping turn ideas into opportunities and respond to needs as they arise. Last year alone, 23 local organizations received grant funding through the Community Impact Fund.
These investments support the people, places, and programs that contribute to the quality of life throughout Mitchell County.
Unlike funds designated for a specific cause or organization, the Community Impact Fund provides flexibility to address changing community needs. That means resources built today can continue making a difference as new challenges and opportunities emerge.
And that's what makes Match Month so important. The impact doesn't end when November does.
Investing in the Future of the Foundation
Match Month also plays an important role in sustaining Solomon Valley Community Foundation and its ability to serve Mitchell County for years to come.
A portion of Match Month donations helps support SVCF's Administrative Fund, which sustains the foundation's day-to-day operations and its work with donors, nonprofit organizations, and community partners.
While the Community Impact and Administrative Funds serve different purposes, both are essential to the foundation's long-term mission. One provides resources to invest directly in the community, while the other supports the organization responsible for connecting local generosity with local needs.
Together, they help ensure Mitchell County has a trusted resource for charitable giving, community grantmaking, and lasting impact.
"Match Month is an opportunity for all of us to invest in the future of Mitchell County," said Julia Rabe, Executive Director of Solomon Valley Community Foundation. "When we build resources for local grantmaking and strengthen the foundation itself, we're creating something our communities can count on for years to come. That's what makes local giving so meaningful. The generosity we see today will continue making a difference long into the future."
A Tradition of Giving That Continues to Grow
Match Month began in 2016 through a matching initiative established by the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, encouraging community foundations across northwest Kansas to build local charitable resources.
Over the years, the campaign has grown into an annual tradition of giving in Mitchell County, bringing together individuals, families, businesses, and organizations who share a commitment to their communities.
That tradition continues in 2026 with matching opportunities supported by the Dane G. Hansen Foundation and the Patterson Family Foundation.
This year, SVCF has set a goal of raising $200,000 in local donations, with the opportunity to unlock an additional $200,000 in matching support. Contributions to the foundation's Community Impact and Administrative Funds, along with eligible new and existing endowed funds, can help build an even stronger foundation for Mitchell County's future.
But at its heart, Match Month is about more than reaching a fundraising goal. It's about what can happen when a community comes together and invests in itself.
